El Paso City Council is discussing a Cite and Summons Resolution, which was originally brought up in November, 2019. There have been many delays on this resolution but it was brought up for an update with public comment on April 27th, 2020, listed as Item #7. There was support from the public as well as elected officials, including Representative Joe Moody and several Council Members.
City Council has requested that the Police Chief and District Attorney present a cite and release plan to curb arrests. The Chief and DA have used the excuse that they “don’t have a process for cite and release”, a ridiculous statement from those tasked with creating that very process by the City Council. Read Representative Moody’s response to the Police Chief and DA.
