HIGH, Everyone!
During this month and the next, Texas NORML is going to be having a membership drive to bolster our ranks for this upcoming legislative session. First of all, to our Members, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything you’re doing for Cannabis law reform here in our great state. Your donations of your time in calling and emailing representatives, volunteering at our events and keeping our roster strong by keeping your dues updated does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated. We had a wonderful open meeting this week with lots of new and old faces and we hope to see many more of you there this next month for our first meeting of 2011. We’re sending out this post to show everyone our different member packages and what all comes with each different membership, for both people who are first visiting the site and member’s who need a refresher for the drive.
All packages come with your one year membership in Texas NORML, an introductory one year membership to National NORML at no extra cost and a Texas NORML membership card.

We’ve got a strong family of members built up already, and we want to welcome many new ones as well. There is going to be at least one bill coming up before the house this year and we need the full support of everyone here who wants to bring some common sense to our policies. The Karen Heikkala Compassionate Care Act is a medical marijuana bill that will likely be introduced here during the upcoming legislative session that starts in January, and more information can be found here at TexasCompassion.com. The Karen Heikkala act is an affirmative defense bill, which means patients who are legally prescribed medical marijuana by an out of state caregiver would have a definite defense in court under Texas law. There is a different bill going around known as the The Tim Timmons Compassionate Care Act, and more information on it can be found here at MedCanUniversity.com. The Tim Timmons act is a more traditional Medicinal Marijuana bill that would allow Doctor’s to prescribe Marijuana to their patients and would allow for licensed dispensaries in the state. We here at Texas NORML fully support both of these bills and it is one of the main reasons we’re having this drive, to get people organized and mobile and ready to call their reps and stand up and be counted when it comes to Cannabis law reform. Our Representatives won’t back it if it’s not something they have heard from their constituents that they want, so that’s where we all come in. Keep an eye on our Event Calender, we’ve got some big events coming up this year and you’re not going to want to miss them. Once again, Thank you to all of our members. Old, new and future, you are the lifeblood of Texas NORML and we could not exist without your support and dedication. Cannabis Liberum in the Lone Star State!
Onward and upward,
