Benefits & Expectations –
Benefits- All positions at Texas NORML are volunteer positions that are unpaid. There are a number of advantages to being on the board of Texas NORML; opportunities to volunteer and get special entry to events that happen through the year like High Times Events, Movie Screenings, Road Shows of Musicians coming through. Of course, entry to these events usually means you work a short shift behind the information/merchandise table. Other benefits include being on the forefront of the fast moving, hard hitting world of Texas and National politics and action surrounding marijuana law reform. Lastly, you’ll meet a ton of interesting and awesome people from across the nation and state!
Expectations – Board members (voting members) are asked to attend the monthly board of directors meetings, volunteer at as many Texas NORML events as they can, as well as fulfill the description of the position they were elected into. There is a large amount of flexibility for life, family, and work since these are volunteer positions.
Officer members (non-voting members with option to train to be a board member) are asked to attend a minimum of one board of directors meeting per quarter and one open public meeting per quarter, as well as checking in on their Texas NORML email address to provide input and volunteering at as many Texas NORML events as possible (Texas NORML puts on or participates in 4-6 large events per year.)
Please respond to this email with questions or interest, by Friday, December 2nd!
Also, if we have not seen you in awhile and you are interested in one of these positions, please consider attending the open meeting that takes place on Wednesday, December 7th @ 8pm at Flamingo Cantina on 6th St., in Austin – map. It is a free public meeting followed by reggae music.
