Urgent Action: We have 24-48 hours to ensure a more inclusive medical program in Texas!

May 20, 2019 Jax Call to Action, Medical Marijuana, News

The Senate Health and Human Services Committee held a hearing and then quickly voted to unanimously pass HB 3703, a proposal to make low-THC cannabis available to those with all seizure disorders, multiple sclerosis, terminal cancer, incurable neurodegenerative disease, autism, ALS and spasticity. However, conditions such as PTSD, ulcerative colitis, chronic pain and more were not included in the qualifying conditions list. This is especially disappointing since those conditions were included in HB 1365 (inclusive medical cannabis), which did not get scheduled for a hearing in time to progress.

Veteran Action: Ask Republican Senators and the Lt Governor to support any amendment that would allow for PTSD and other service related disabilities!

Patient Action: If you have PTSD or chronic pain but are not a veteran, please ask your senator to make the Texas Compassionate Use Program more inclusive!

We have one last opportunity to have the bill improved by amendments, Senate floor debate. Medical cannabis must be debated and voted on in the Senate by end of business on Wednesday, May 22nd. It is imperative that the Texas Senate hear from Texas veterans and patients who need access to medical cannabis. The session ends on May 27th.

HB 3703 started off with only three conditions included. Thousands of Texans reached out to the legislature and we saw more four more conditions added. Our engagement is working! Please make this final push as effective as possible participating in our veteran action or our patient action. We cannot wait another two years!
