Representative Tracy King’s HB 1325, a bill that will create a regulatory/licensing infrastructure so Texas farmers can grow hemp, takes another important step in the process. HB 1325 passed unanimously out of the Agricultural Committee in the House and then passed unanimously after debate on the House floor. With this overwhelming support, it arrived in the Senate. The Senate has now scheduled their hearing for Tuesday, May 7th. (Read bill overview.)
Ask your Senator to support industrial hemp in Texas!
Hearings in the Senate work differently than those in the House. Legislators have requested that testimony be limited to an invited list of experts and that the public sign in to support for the bill. Learn more about kiosk registration.
Federal law explicitly authorizes states to engage in the state-authorized cultivation of hemp. Over two dozen states have enacted legislation permitting licensed hemp cultivation in a manner that is compliant with federal law. It is time for Texas to create a program that will help our agricultural communities.
