Coming Soon: Texas Marijuana Policy Voter Guide – Primary Edition

December 31, 2019 Jax News

We will be making the 2020 Texas Marijuana Policy Voter Guide – Primary Edition available for distribution to voters in mid to late January.  We have sent out a survey to candidates seeking the Democratic and Republican nominations for the following offices: US Senate, US Congress, Texas House, Texas Senate, Governor, and Lieutenant Governor. We will update our Voter Guide page with their responses.

What can you do to prepare for the Primary Elections?

  • Register to vote! You must be registered by the 2/3/20 deadline. Check your registration and learn more here.
  • Using this website, identify your Congressional, Texas House and Texas Senate Districts.
  • Find out where the candidates stand! We will have the Primary Edition available in late January 2020, until then, view incumbent candidates voting records on legislation from previous sessions.
  • Get out the vote!! Early Voting: February 18-28, 2020| Election Day: March 3rd, 2020

Texas NORML originated the first cannabis centric Voter Guide in 2012. We offer Primary Election and General Election Voter Guide editions. Please make a donation to support our continued work to expand this program.

Texas and 26 other states in the U.S. cannot collect signatures to place an issue on the ballot for a vote to change state law. Additionally, in 1997, Texas passed a state law requiring that all drug laws be enforced and changed at the state rather than local level. Because of these limitations, Texans must rely on our state elected officials, specifically our state representatives and state senators (so take a close look at yours). Learn more about engaging with your legislators by reviewing our Activist Training Guide.

You can also register to participate in a series of 10 regional advocacy workshops throughout Texas between 1/10-25/20. Check out what cities the workshop will be in and register!

Please fill out our Activist Info Form so that you can be involved in cannabis law reform in Texas.

Reminder: Texans have until 5pm on December 31st, 2019 to submit feedback to the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) regarding the draft Consumable Hemp Product Program regulations. To review the draft regulations and learn hot to submit comment, click here.
