Hemp Advances from the House to the Senate!

April 23, 2019 Jax Call to Action, News

The Texas House of Representatives just advanced HB 1325, a bill that would allow for agricultural growth, manufacturing and production of hemp, without objection. This is a historic first for Texas farmers! Now that the bill has made it out of the House, it will move on to the Senate. (Read bill overview.)

Ask your Senator to support industrial hemp in Texas!

Federal law explicitly authorizes states to engage in the state-authorized cultivation of hemp. Over two dozen states have enacted legislation permitting licensed hemp cultivation in a manner that is compliant with federal law. It is time for Texas to create a program that will help our agricultural communities.

Donate to support our work at the Capitol! Now is a crucial time. We only have till the end of May to advance this important policy. You can also become a member, become a sustaining donor or purchase our merchandise.

Other Actions:

HB 63, which would remove jail time and the collateral consequences that come along with a criminal marijuana possession conviction, is on the House Calendar for April 25th! Please ask your representative to co-author HB 63!

HB 1365, which expands medical access to cannabis was amended and passed with unanimous support from committee members! It now heads to Calendars to be scheduled for the House Floor. Please ask your representative to co-author HB 1365!
